Folding (Tie-dye)





Folding 
Definition: Tie-dye is a method in which parts of the fabric are tie so as not to absorb the dye when it is immersed in it.


Procedure:
  • Place fabric on flat surface 
  • Fold fabric in accordion pleats in horizontal line
  • At one end of the horizontal line fold fabric to form rectangular shape 
  • Tie the fabric tightly together in a crosswise position then damp with cold water 
  • Immerse in dye bath and leave for 20 minutes 
  • Remove fabric from bath and rinse until water runs clear 
  • Allow to drip dry and repeat method using a different colour dye bath

Finger Painting




Finger Painting 
 Definition: Painting is a two dimensional work of art done in liquid to paste-like medium, usually coloured pigments. Value can and is sometimes used to create the illusion of form and or space 
Finger painting is a form of painting done by dipping ones finger pad in paint and using the same finger to produce images on the canvas, thus giving it the name finger painting. 


Procedure
  • Place Canvas horizontally 
  • Dip finger pad in paint 
  • Starting at the top use finger to paint more than half of the canvas 
  • Wipe off fingers then dip in another colour 
  • Paint the rest of canvas 
  • Wipe fingers then apply colour to be used for objects in the background 
  • Paint in background object/s
  • Wipe fingers then re-apply paint for foreground 
  • Paint in objects for foreground

Paper Batik/Wax Resist




Paper Batik/Wax Resist 
Definition: Paper Batik/ Wax Resist is a picture making technique used in the creation of a design by using wax and dye. The wax is used to bring out the design after the paper has been washed.


Procedure:
  • Lightly outline design on canvas 
  • Use wax to trace outline 
  • Use paint brush to wash canvas with liquid dye (brush in one direction)
  • Allow to dry then apply wax to areas that will not be dyed again 
  • Use paint brush to wash canvas with different colour liquid dye 
  • Allow to dry then apply wax to areas that will not be dyed again 
  • Use paint brush to wash canvas with different colour liquid dye

Mono Printing




Mono Printing 
Definition: Mono printing is a from of picture making technique that has images or outlines that cannot exactly be reproduced.


Procedure:
  • Select desired paint 
  • place paint on tile then use a brayer to spread the paint evenly on the surface 
  • Use your finger to create a design in the paint on the tile 
  • Place a piece of cartridge paper of about 7x8cm over the design that was made 
  • Place a piece of newspaper over the cartridge paper 
  • Use your hand to rub the paper in a forward and backward position 
  • Lift the paper away from the title to view the outcome of the design

Lines




Lines  
Definition: A line can be defined as a mark made by a pointed tool, the distance between two points, a succession of points or the movement of a point leaving a mark.


Explanation: This work of art is a reproduction of three females figures using lines. The artist used various lines to represent different body parts. For instance, plaid lines were used in the arm of one of the females while circular lines were used to represent the breasts.

Landscape Painting

Definition: Painting is a two dimensional work of art done in liquid to paste-like medium, usually coloured pigments. Value can and is sometimes used to create the illusion of form and or space.
Landscape painting is a form of painting that reflects physical features of the land. this type of painting is done by placing the canvas horizontally. 


Procedure:
  • Place the canvas horizontally
  • Starting at the top paint more than half the canvas in the colour to be used for the sky 
  • Paint the rest of the canvas in the colour to be used for the ground 
  • Paint in the mountains or objects that will be in the background 
  • Paint in the trees and other objects that will be in the foreground

Knotting (Tie-dye)

Definition: Tie-dye is a method in which parts of the fabric are tie so as not to absorb the dye when it is immersed in it. 


Procedure:
  • Tie fabric in a desired amount of knots 
  • Immerse in dye bath and leave for 20 minutes 
  • Remove fabric from bath and rinse until water runs clear 
  • Allow to drip dry and repeat method using a different colour dye bath 
  • Allow to dry before untying

Frottage




Frottage 
Definition: A frottage is a picture making technique of reproducing a given texture from a relief design by laying paper over the actual texture or design or design and rubbing with a crayon or pencil 


Procedure
  • Lightly outline figures to be used for picture 
  • Place paper with outline on surface with desired texture 
  • Use pencil crayon to shade parts of the figure you wish to have the desired texture 
  • Repeat steps until picture is complete with desired texture 

Form and Contrast




Form and Contrast  
Definition: Form is a figure having three dimensions- length, width and dept. Form occupy actual or real space but the illusion of form can be created using picture-making techniques, such as drawing, painting and collage. Form can and should be viewed from different angles, like shapes, forms can be geometric or organic
Contrast is the degree of difference in an element. This principle can help to create a level of excitement in the work of art. For example rough and smooth textures, dark and light colours.


Explanation: In this work of art you can see a combination of one or more elements to create interest by adding changes. You can see that the artist created an illusion of form in this work of art giving the shapes a three-dimensional look. It helps to heighten the visual appeal of the work and avoid dullness. The artist has also created contrast in the different areas of this work of art. The picture represent here shows variety in lines and shades. Contrast can also be a result of variety.

Dot




Dot 
Definition: A dot is a mark or point made by a drawing instrument. It is usually round in shape and is often used as the inception for some of the other element. 


Explanation: In this piece dots were used to reproduce a picture. The artist also used dots to create the illusion of form, through the work of art is actually flat it gives the viewer the impression of depth and width.
