Crayon Etching 

 Definition: Crayon Etching is a picture making technique done by using a round tip object used to make scratches or incisions in layers of wax crayon 

Procedure: 

• Coat canvas with several layers of coloured wax crayons
• Coat coloured layers with layers of black wax crayon 
• Use round tip object to scratch a design into the surface  

Color Wheel

Color Wheel  

Definition: A Color wheel is a diagram that shows color relationships using pigments. Color is the reflection of light off a surface, for color to exist there must be light, sight and surface.

Explanation: By mixing the primary colors (red, blue and green) one can create the color wheel. Each mixture will generate a new color. For example, a mixture of a lot of yellow and a little red will produce yellow orange, by mixing equal amounts of both colors one will achieve orange and by adding more red than yellow, red orange will be produced.

 Definition: A collage is a picture making technique of affixing various materials (paper, fabric) to canvas, paper or panel, to create patterns of colour and texture.  

Procedure: 

• Gather items from the environment that will be used 
• Use glue to paste on objects that will be in the background 
• Allow to dry 
• Use glue to paste on objects that will be in the middle ground 
• Allow to dry 
• Use glue to paste on objects that will be in the foreground 
• Allow to dry then frame

Definition: A collage is a picture making technique of affixing various materials (paper, fabric, etc.) to canvas, paper or panel, to create patterns of colour and texture.  

Procedure:

• Gather various types of fabric/materials that will be used 
• Use glue to paste on fabric/materials that will be in the background 
• Allow to dry 
• Use glue to paste on objects that will be in the foreground 
• Allow to dry then frame 

Clamping

Definition: Tie-dye is a method in which parts of the fabric are tie so as not to absorb the dye when it is immersed in it. 

Procedure:

• Place the fabric on a flat surface 
• Fold fabric like accordion pleats or as desired 
• Clamp fabric as desired using paper clips or clothes pegs 
• Damp fabric with cold water 
• Immerse fabric in dye bath for 20 minutes 
• Remove and rinse fabric until water runs clear 
• Allow fabric to dry before removing clips or pegs

Brick/Half Drop

Definition: Printing is the transfer of image/s from one surface to another

Procedure:

• Select a motif 
• Rule canvas according to the size motif selected 
• Use ink pad to apply ink to the motif 
• Moving horizontally place the motif between the lines drawn for the first design 
• Re-apply ink to the motif 
• Place the motif at the centre position directly on the lines 
• Repeat both design until the paper is completely covered 

Bordering

Definition: Printing is the transfer of image/s from one surface to another

Bordering is a printing technique done on the edge/border of a work of art to frame/border an object.  

Procedure:

• Select a motif 
• Rule canvas according to the size motif selected 
• Use ink pad to apply ink to the motif 
• Place motif on the canvas in the square close to the edge of the paper 
• Re-apply ink to the motif 
• Place the motif in the square next to the previous so that both image will touch 
• Repeat steps until all the edges are covered with images
